He's quite old-fashioned in many ways, as well as being fairly stubborn and cynical. He takes things a bit too seriously, and can be rather blunt. However, whilst it is not very obvious, he has some softer traits. He can be gentle, but you would have to be close to him or cunning to discover it. His mouth can often get him into trouble, as he doesn't quite know when to shut up, or seem to understand his own rudeness. He grew up in London, learning how to be a respectable gentleman and a good wizard. He doesn't hold much interest in Muggles or their lifestyles, and his home reflects his traditional values. Being quite a lonely creature, he pays great attention to his sons Alfred, Matthew, and the adopted Peter (his youngest). He would like to see his children follow in his footsteps, and become independant, revered men. Whilst he does love his sons, his desire to see them strive for the best (perhaps reflecting his hopes more than their own) sometimes gets in the way of his ability to relax and just be their dad. He sees a great amount of potential in Alfred, but is concerned that his rebellious streak and stubborn nature - which ironically came from Arthur - will be his downfall. As a result, he tends to focus on Matthew and Peter, almost doting on the latter. After spending a few years working for the Ministry of Magic, Arthur applied for a position at Hogwarts, pleased with it's atmosphere and ancient feel.
